What makes the 520 different?
Its transmission can handle gear changes automatically, or you can select gears with the steering-column paddles. It has five forward gears, reverse and AT/MT modes. Selectable two- and four-wheel drive help adapt the machine to the task, while the standard steering is manual rack-and-pinion. Trying the steering at the speeds and in the conditions you expect to use is a useful part of choosing one.

Choose it around your normal load
The 2027 520 has a published 450-pound cargo-bed capacity and 1,000-pound towing capacity. Before choosing a machine, write down what you actually move: tools, feed, fencing materials, a loaded trailer and the people riding with you. Compare that list with the applicable owner’s manual, including the effect of accessories and trailer tongue weight.

Pioneer 520 or something else?
A little Pioneer 520 history
Honda introduced the compact Pioneer 500 for model year 2015. The Pioneer 520 joined for 2021 with a larger engine and a tilting cargo bed. For 2026, Honda revised gearing and shift mapping, made under-seat storage standard and improved cabin heat management. Those are useful differences to check when comparing model years.

Is the Pioneer 520 automatic?
Yes. The 2027 model has a five-speed geared automatic transmission, with a manual mode and paddle shifting when you want to choose the gear yourself.
Does it have power steering?
The 2027 specification lists manual steering. If power steering is high on your list, compare an EPS-equipped Pioneer 700 Deluxe or Forest alongside it.
How many people can it carry?
Two: the driver and one passenger. Passenger fit, proper restraints and the owner’s-manual requirements still matter; the seat count alone does not establish that a particular passenger fits.
Will it fit in my pickup?
Honda highlights the 520’s compatibility with full-size pickup beds. Confirm your truck’s usable dimensions, payload allowance, loading equipment and securement requirements with the actual configuration. A 50-inch vehicle width alone does not settle every part of that question.
Should I compare the 520 with a Pioneer 700?
Yes, especially if you want more cargo or towing capacity. The 2027 two-seat 700 is 59.9 inches wide, with published bed and towing ratings of 1,000 and 1,500 pounds. The useful choice is the combination of access, steering, load and space that fits your routine.
