The Rubicon name covers two different Honda ATV platforms. The Foreman Rubicon 520 family pairs a 518cc engine with independent rear suspension and electric power steering. The Rubicon 700 uses a 675cc engine, a different automatic transmission, independent rear suspension and manual steering. Start with that distinction; the larger number does not mean it includes every feature of the smaller platform. 520 specifications · 700 specifications
The most useful comparison
| 2027 configuration | Rubicon 520 family | Rubicon 700 |
|---|---|---|
| Steering | EPS on all current trims | Manual steering |
| Transmission | Foot shift or DCT automatic | Hydraulic torque-converter automatic |
| Rear suspension | Independent | Independent |
| Published towing rating | 1,322 lb | 848 lb |
Both platforms offer selectable two- and four-wheel drive, but their transmissions and front-differential arrangements differ. A buyer who needs a specific towing rating or steering feature should compare that equipment directly. Engine displacement is not a substitute for those details.

Choose among the 520 trims
The FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 EPS uses foot-selected gears and an automatic clutch. It is an option for someone who wants direct control of shifts together with IRS and steering assistance.
The Automatic DCT EPS version can choose gears automatically or accept rider-selected shifts. Its specification also includes high and low ranges. The Automatic DCT EPS Deluxe adds aluminum wheels, painted bodywork and color-matched suspension. Deluxe does not bring a different listed displacement or a higher towing rating. Where the 700 fits
The Rubicon 700 uses a three-speed hydraulic torque-converter automatic with an ESP manual shift option. It does not use DCT or include EPS. Its different transmission, seating dimensions and steering arrangement make it a separate comparison, not simply the next trim above a 520 Deluxe. Try the fit and controls, then check the exact owner's manual for the loads and tasks you have in mind. Honda's Rubicon 700 details

Rubicon or something else?
Two lines of Rubicon history
Foreman Rubicon debuted for 2001 with Hondamatic transmission. The 2015 redesign brought IRS and available DCT; the larger 518cc engine followed for 2020. The 700 has a separate ancestry: it follows the Rincon, introduced for 2003 and renamed Rubicon 700 for 2024. Rubicon redesign history · 520 history · 700 history
Rubicon questions
Are all Rubicons automatic?
No. The current 520 family includes a foot-shift EPS trim. The other two 520 trims use DCT; the 700 has its own torque-converter automatic.
Does every Rubicon have power steering?
No. Current 520 trims include EPS. The current 700 lists manual steering.
Is the 700 rated to tow more?
No. Honda's current published figure is higher for the 520 family. Use the exact model's manual for towing limits and operating instructions.
Is Foreman Rubicon part of the Foreman lineup?
For comparison and shopping, treat it as Rubicon. “Foreman” is part of its official name; it does not make its equipment identical to a Foreman 4x4.
What does Deluxe change?
It adds the wheel and finish package described above to the DCT EPS configuration. Compare the listed equipment, not an assumed engine upgrade.
